Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) 2021, Important Dates, Eligibility Criteria, Selection Procedure, Exam Pattern, and Syllabus

The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is conducted by the Indian Air Force. The exam is held twice a year in February and August/September, respectively. The exam is conducted to select Class-I Gazetted Officers in Flying and Ground Duties (Technical and Non-Technical). AFCAT is a popular exam among male and female candidates who wish to join the Indian Air Force for both Short Service Commission (SSC) in Flying Branch and Permanent Commission/Short Service Commission (PC/SSC) in Ground Duties for both Technical and Non-Technical roles.

Indian Air Force has released an employment notification for the recruitment of FCAT (01/2021) for Flying Branch and Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) Branches. Also, NCC special entry for courses commencing in January 2022. Interested candidates can read the notification and apply online.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

Candidate must be a citizen of India as per Indian citizenship act, 1955.

Age & Marital Status

Flying Branch through AFCAT and NCC Special Entry:

Candidates born between 02 January 1998 and 01 January 2002 (both dates inclusive). Upper age limit for candidates having valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) has the relaxation up to 26 years i.e., born between 02 January 1996 and 01 January 2002.

Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) Branch:

20 to 26 years as on 01 January 2022 i.e., born between 02 January 1996 and 01 January 2002.

Marital Status

Candidates below 25 years of age must be unwedded at the time of commencement of course. The candidates will not be allowed to get married until completing their training period. Widows/ Widowers and divorcees (with or without encumbrances) below 25 years of age are not eligible.

Married candidates above 25 years of age are eligible to apply but during training period they will not be allowed to live out with family.

 

Educational Qualification

Flying Branch Graduation in any discipline with 60% or equivalent and passed with 60 % in Maths and Physics at class 12th Or BE/BTech with 60% or equivalent Or Candidates have cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with 60%
Ground Duty Technical Branch Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics): Passed Class 10+2 with 60% marks each in Physics and Mathematics and B.E/B.Tech. Or Cleared Sections A and B of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies with 60% in disciplines specified by the examination authority. Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical): Candidates must have passed 10+2 with 60% in Physics and Mathematics and degree/integrated post-graduation in Engineering/Technology. Or Cleared sections A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies with minimum 60% marks or equivalent in certain disciplines specified by IAF.
Ground Duty Non-Technical Branch Administration: Graduation in any discipline with minimum 60% Or Cleared section A&B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised university with 60%. Accounts Branch: Graduation in any of the following streams with 60 % marks or equivalent from a recognized university: - B. Com Degree/ Bachelor of Business Administration (with specialization in Finance)/ Bachelor of Management Studies (with specialization in Finance)/ Bachelor of Business Studies (with specialization in Finance) Qualified CA/ CMA/ CS/ CFA. B.Sc. with specialization in Finance.

 

Physical and Medical Standard

Candidates must be physically fit according to the physical standards set by the commission for admission into NDA.

The above-mentioned vacancies are tentative and subject to change without notice. Actual intake would depend on organisational requirements, various cadre control mechanisms, availability of training slots and actual number of vacancies accruing in Jan 2022.

Type of Commission

Permanent Commission (PC) for Men: Candidates joining as PC officers would continue to serve till the age of superannuation in their respective branches as per their rank.

Short Service Commission (SSC) for Men & Women:

The engagement period for Flying Branch (Men and Women) SSC Officers is 14 years from the date of Commissioning (Non extendable).

The initial tenure for Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) SSC Officers would be for a period of 10 years. An extension of 4 years may be granted (subject to service requirements, availability of vacancies, willingness, suitability, and merit).

Grant of Permanent Commission (PC) would be considered during the last 1 year of service (subject to service requirements, availability of vacancies, willingness, suitability, and merit).
